What we do with your information
This notice explains, in plain English, what First Cap collects through this website, why, and the rights you have under UK data protection law.
Who we are
First Cap is the controller of the information you send us. Controller details: [First Cap Ltd — company details to follow]. You can reach us about your information at hello@firstcap.vc.
What we collect, and why
We collect what you type into one of our four forms, plus the time you sent it. Our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs, such as IP address, to run and secure the site. We do not use analytics, tracking or cookies on this website.
- Angels
Your name, email, LinkedIn link, current role and organisation, who referred you, typical cheque size, investor status, whether you are a US person, and anything else you choose to tell us.
To decide whether to invite you to join; to confirm you are a certified high net worth or self-certified sophisticated investor; and, because different securities rules apply to US persons, to know whether we can include you. Cheque size helps us understand the shape of the membership.
- Founders
Your company name and website, your name and email, stage, amount raising, lead investor, when your round closes, where you are today, who you sell to, your deck link and your one-line description.
To review your company, reply to you, and, once we have spoken to you and you have agreed, share it with members and the buyer panel.
- Operators
Your name, email, organisation, role, sport and LinkedIn link.
To consider you for the buyer panel, ask for your view on companies, and manage conflicts where your organisation is a customer or prospect.
- Funds
Your name, work email, firm, role, stage and sector focus, the kinds of partnership that interest you, and anything else you choose to tell us.
To reply to you, understand where your fund and First Cap might work together, and arrange a conversation.
Our lawful basis
We rely on our legitimate interests in running an invitation-only network: reviewing what you send us, replying to it and keeping a record of who we have spoken to. Where you are asking to join or to be considered, we also rely on taking steps you have asked for before any arrangement with you. The box on each form confirms you have read this notice; it is not consent.
If we ever want to send you something optional, such as invitations or news, we will ask for your consent separately, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Who sees it
The people who run First Cap, and the provider that stores form submissions for us. Beyond that, we may share:
- a founder’s company details, deck and round with members and buyer-panel operators, only after speaking to the founder and with their agreement, and never with members who compete with the founder or whose organisation is their customer or prospect;
- a founder’s company details with venture funds, only with the founder’s agreement;
- an operator’s name and organisation with founders we introduce them to;
- a fund’s name with founders we introduce it to.
The buyer panel’s view of a company may be shared in summary, never attributed to the operator who gave it. We do not sell your information.
Form submissions are stored by Vercel Inc., our hosting provider, which may process them outside the UK. Where it does, the transfer is covered by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge.
How long we keep it
We keep it for up to 24 months from when you send it, then delete it. If you become a member or panel member, we will tell you how long we keep your details at that point.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the information we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete it;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- send it to you, or someone else, in a common format.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
